3-5’s
Our 3-5s class is child directed, hands on, and play-based.
About the 3-5s Class
Our 3-5s class is a composite of 3-4s and Pre-K students. This gives students expanded social learning opportunities and exposure. The children engage in many activities to improve their academic and social skills throughout the week. During free play time, students improve verbal skills through telling stories and learning letters. The classroom discovery station provides a hands-on opportunity for measuring and experimentation through various science, math, and cooking projects. Open-ended art projects, pretend play, block construction, story-telling and dramatization provides many opportunities for creative and imaginative exploration. We encourage the children to share ideas, thoughts, and questions in small and large groups. These activities build confidence, self-esteem, and group cohesion. The extra Pre-K class time prepares children for the challenges and expectations of Kindergarten.

Parent Role
Parents/caregivers play an important role in our school. They function as assistant teachers every week in the classroom and hold positions to help run the co-op (everything from All-School Chair to Fundraising Reps to Arts and Crafts Parent). Co-op business and parent education take place in a monthly meeting.
Family participation provides a high adult-to-child ratio, lower cost than other preschool models, and a strong community of children and parents. The model creates not only a rich learning environment for children but also supports families in their parenting journey.
Full Parent Responsibilities can be found on our Registration page
More about the Co-op Model can be found on our What is Co-op? page and on the North Seattle Co-ops website
Teacher Suzie
Suzie received a Certificate of Early Childhood Education from North Seattle College and has been teaching preschool since 2001. Joining Victory Heights in 2006, she enthusiastically encourages creativity and exploration through play and a hands-on approach to learning. Fundamentally, Suzie believes in making a connection to every child based on that child’s individual personality and temperament. A former co-op parent herself, Suzie has four children of her own.
Katie Becker, Parent Educator
Katie Becker has been working with children and their families for over twenty years. Upon completing her undergraduate degree she went on to receive a Masters in Education. Furthering her education, in 1992 she completed her early childhood education endorsement while working with children and families in inner city Detroit.
Her professional experience has covered a diverse array of early childhood education (ECE) settings: Head Start, The EEU at the University of Washington (Experimental Education Unit), ECEAP (Early Childhood Education Assistance Program), parent educator with North Seattle Community College, childcare centers, cooperative preschool, PEPS (Program for Early Parent Support), and public schools.
